Classy Interview: Meet Sydney Coelho, Hofstra University Music Education Major

Some people know from the very beginning what they want to do professionally. For Sydney Coelho, her passion became her work. A junior music education student at Hofstra University, Coelho has spent years playing the piano and singing. When she realized that teaching would be the perfect opportunity to showcase her skills, she found her calling in Hofstra’s music program. College Lifestyles™ had the chance to talk with the classy Sydney about her involvement at Hofstra.

College Lifestyles™: What groups or organizations do you belong to at school?

Sydney Coelho: I’m vice president of a group at school called NAFME. It’s the National Association for Music Education. We sponsor events for music groups along Long Island. I’m also vice president of my a Capella group called Hofbeats. I was just hired as manager of the university stage crew. I’ll be a leader of recitals, concerts and events at our school. I’m also part of the Hofstra Opera Theater. We do opera scenes each semester and we do a big opera in January over winter break…
